The Disability and Carers Directorate (DCD) supports disabled people and their carers, whether or not they are able to work. The directorate is responsible for providing an efficient, reliable and considerate system of Disability Benefits, and for all disability civil rights issues.

Disability Rights Commission : DRC Helpline
The Disability Rights Commission (DRC) is an independent organisation with the goal of "a society where all disabled people can participate fully as equal citizens". We, the DRC in Scotland, are here to make sure that the DRC can deliver rights for disabled people in Scotland effectively and that Scottish issues influence the DRC' s work across Britain. National Centre for Independent Living
We promote independent living.This means disabled people having control and choice over their own lives.
We arrange meetings for people to talk about and develop new ideas around independent living. We work with the Department of Health and other policy makers to try and make sure disabled people can live independently.
We give advice and information around Direct Payments so that they can be used to live independently.
We make sure that disabled people can get accessible information about independent living and direct payments.

Public health excellence at NICE : Health Development Agency
The new National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has taken on the functions of the Health Development Agency to create a single excellence-in-practice organisation responsible for providing national guidance on the promotion of good health and the prevention and treatment of ill health.
Our guidance is for those working in the NHS, local authorities and the wider public, private and voluntary sectorsThe National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence will produce guidance in three areas of health.
Public health - guidance on the promotion of good health and the prevention of ill health for those working in the NHS, local authorities and the wider public and voluntary sector. Health technologies - guidance on the use of new and existing medicines, treatments and procedures within the NHS. Clinical practice - guidance on the appropriate treatment and care of people with specific diseases and conditions within the NHS.
